HSC MKII Restoration USA

Recommended Posts

Well I never really did a section for my HSC, it has been a 3 year restoration 1500 plus man-hours and ....$ and she is almost finished!!!! It was pretty much a ground up restoration (even though it was restored by the Dutch Calvary Museum) She has received all new electrical, mechanical, brakes, drive train, interior missing bits and bobs, drivers side window, engine rebuild and a list goes on... Pictures from the cavalry museum that I found, pictures in Holland at Joops, and some restoration pics. The head was warped, the cooling system was inadequate, the head bolts were stripped and you could not torque it down, the fuel system leaked, the wiring was an electrical nightmare, and the list goes on... http://s141.photobucket.com/user/lssah2025/story/16889 2011-10-13_15-13-05_494.jpg

More radiator pics, redid the cowling, trying to make it look more original. Pain in the butt, to get proper airflow and centered correctly since the engine and radiator sit a little offset. Gauges going in this week, the radiator parts just need to be painted now and permanently installed. IMG_8231.JPG

OK well decided to do a few field modifications to her, so today had a step made and grab handles. Need to tidy up the engine compartment, touch up nicks and scratches in the interior etc. after redoing the tranny and radiator, sandblasted the jack and accessories today, will get primed and painted, the brackets to hold them will go in in a few weeks when they arrive, have to make the holder for the jack handles etc, that are located towards the bottom of the engine compartment on offside. Still trying to find a few more goodies, like the inspection lamp bracket, pretty much have written off a binnacle for now, looking at a modified PLM mount (field mod) and a few other goodies. Have about 95% of the CES kit for it so she is almost 100% complete per what is required per the books, then maybe a few shows and possibly over across the pond for some events in 2014!!!!

Thanks Peter, see you in about a month to go over those other thingy's.... So we getting Chinese again or are we going to try something different this time? Fingers crossed for another 1 to 2 projects :cool2:. Well this time I know I won't get pulled over by the two hot Dutch policewoman again while trying to back into a tight arse parking spot at the bed and breakfast with my Landy that didn't have power steering and they thought I was drunk, I almost wish one of them would of given me a breathalyzer.....;)

So I decided to add some field mods, so it will not exactly look like it rolled off the factory floor anymore, but maybe a return from REME after a service and a fix...

Added the two top handles, mine had the holes already there and just stips of metal were covering them, so nothing was. drilled, just replaced.

Also added a step like Jack-in-the-Box has, from Bovington (but a little different).

Also sourcing a Sherman foul weather hood to use it like these other ones.

So here are a few pictures of the Humber at a local car show, still working out a few bugs, another picture of the field mod water/fuel can holder on the offside wall, a piture of the 2 ton jack which I found for the vehicle and it works great, had to change the tube in the runflat. Also last picture is of a new carb I will be switching too, the current carb is a Solex 35-40 which is not correct for the HSC or HAC, but the original Solex 35 RZINEO can't be located, well we found that the 35-40 does not have an accelator pump, it appears they have all been modified by Solex and only really run wide open, like for a generator, constant speed, so we have had no pick up and it is a dog going up hills, so we are switching to this Rochester 1bl carb and it has an accelator pump, all the fittings are on the correct side, and hopefully, she will now run full speed, and have enough power to do hills. She is going to Wings over Michigan this weekend for a show and professional photo op, so more detailed pics will be posted when I get them, also next week the work should start on the new carb.
